Set up maps with a free Mapbox token

TradeCRM's maps run on Mapbox. You create your own free Mapbox account and paste a key (called a token) into TradeCRM. It takes about ten minutes, and maps stay switched off until you do it.

What maps give you

• Every open job as a pin on a map.
• Address suggestions as you type, so no mistyped postcodes.
• Route planning for the day, and a mileage log.

Part 1: Register with Mapbox

1. Go to mapbox.com and press Sign up.

2. Create your account and confirm your email address.

3. Add a credit or debit card to your Mapbox account (look under your account's billing settings). Mapbox needs this before it lets you restrict a token to one website. The free monthly allowance still applies, so you aren't charged for light use.

Part 2: Create a locked-down token

1. In Mapbox, open your Tokens page (it's in your account area) and press Create a token.

2. Give it a name you'll recognise, like TradeCRM.

3. Leave the standard public scopes ticked as they are. Don't tick any secret scopes.

4. Find the URL restrictions box and add the address of TradeCRM: https://www.trade-crm.co.uk (with the www., exactly as it appears in your browser's address bar). This means the token only works from TradeCRM, so nobody else can use it and run up charges on your account.

5. Press Create token.

6. Copy the token. A public token starts with pk..

Part 3: Paste it into TradeCRM

1. In TradeCRM, click Settings in the left-hand menu, then the Maps tab.

2. Paste your token into the Public token box.

3. Press Save token. TradeCRM checks it works.

4. The label at the top changes to On. You're done.

Managing it later

• Test checks the saved token still works.
• Turn off / Turn on switches maps off and on without losing your token. Job addresses are only sent to Mapbox while maps are on.
• Remove deletes the token and switches maps off.
• To replace the token, paste a new one and press Save token. Leave the box blank to keep the one you have.
